Brief: Create a fragrance bottle that's accessible, refillable and unmistakably Tilt
A design competition set by Pentawards. Tilt beauty is a brand that creates accessible, ergonomic clean and refillable products for people with limited mobility, visual impairments and skin sensitivity.
We looked at influencers with disabilities who review products to understand their pain points. We discovered that many people with visual impairments don’t know Braille and individuals with low grip strength often use additional accessories to interact with objects.
Based on our research, we decided to focus on 3 major pain points. Standard atomisers require more force to press. Decorative shapes especially with sharp edges makes handling awkward and uncomfortable. Heavy materials like glass are slippery and if dropped, can shatter or cause injury.
TILT KEY VISUALS
Our first step was to understand Tilt as a brand, what they stand for and how do they look? Based on our findings we can confidently state they are a very thoughtful brand. The main brand colours are toned down, avoiding eye strain to users. The brand has a playful tone of voice with captions in all their posts and models appear with cheerful expressions, bringing a sense of comfort.
CONCEPT DESCRIPTION
The bottle is designed with a wide base for stability and a wide pump to spread the force required for pressing. The pump is slightly tilted upwards to help direct the spray and to inform individuals with visual impairments where the front is. Lightweight, yet durable, silicone is moulded into Tilt’s ergonomic and easy to hold shape to improve grip.
TRAVEL SIZE
Tilt Beauty requested a travel size that would be easy to use for people with disabilities. Most travel sizes tend to be tall and thin, but from our findings, a wider base makes pressing the atomiser easier for people with low grip strength. The outcome is a smaller version of our original design, keeping the core features, with an easy refill system and wide base and cap.
